Kathy Martin is 26 years old and lives in West Monroe, Louisiana. Martin served in the U.S. Marine Corps and has been working as a salesman for a car rental company since retiring from the military.

In May 2020, Martin suddenly felt extreme heart trouble, difficulty breathing, and swelling and pain in his lower extremities. He was accompanied by his family to the hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors initially diagnosed Martin with lung, heart and kidney problems, and as his symptoms became more severe, Martin was wheeled into the emergency room. Three days later, Martin was resuscitated, but he was eventually diagnosed with end-stage renal disease, chronic nephritis, chronic kidney disease CKD stage 5, renal anemia, renal hypertension, renal heart disease, and renal bone disease. When he woke up after regaining consciousness, he realized that he had a tube inserted at the thigh artery and was receiving dialysis with a leg artery cannula.

After half a month of hospitalization, the doctor allowed Martin to go downstairs to the hospital for a walk. Sitting in his wheelchair, he looked at the people coming and going around him, thinking of his present situation, suddenly broke down and cried, and his family members followed him in tears.

Martin was diagnosed with advanced uremia in May last year, and now he has been on hemodialysis for a whole year. The doctor said that Martin’s heart is also very bad, and if he doesn’t have a kidney transplant soon, I’m afraid he won’t even have ten years left. After hearing the doctor’s words, Martin realized that his disease had reached a point where it was difficult to save him, either by dialysis treatment to maintain life, or to find a suitable kidney source for kidney replacement surgery, the financially embarrassed Martin decided to rely on dialysis to maintain life, Martin said this may be the most suitable choice for himself.

On the recommendation of a friend, Martin decided to come to chuffed for fundraising, all the money received will be used for Martin’s hemodialysis cost and to find a matching kidney source, hope you can help Martin.
